The Dip by Seth Godin (review) - Chapter #35

Share the goodness!

This is a little book that teaches you, quite literally, when to quit and when to stick.

Best-seller author Seth Godin asks the most poignant questions.

Miguel read the first chapter a few years ago.  He’s happy he stumbled upon the full book last week:

00:00 Intro
01:10 Why be the best in the World?
03:13 The curves of accomplishment
04:30 What is the Dip
05:12 It’s hard
06:20 The question to really get it
07:30 Hard plays to your advantage
08:08 On quiting

Quotes:

“You’re astonishing. How dare you waste it. How dare you squander that resource by spreading it too thin. In order to get through that Dip you’ll need to quit everything else. If it’s not going to put a dent in the world, quit. Right now. Quit and use that void to find the energy to assault the Dip that matters.”

“People settle. Organizations settle too. For good enough instead of best in the world.”

“Here’s the good news: the fact that it’s difficult and unpredictable works to your advantage. Because if it were any other way, there’d be no profit in it. … The reason we are here is to solve the hard problems.”

Miguel, I liked how you’ve added the table of contents below your video - it clearly set the roadmap for your message and I was free to either follow it or skip to the parts that are of interest to me.

Video, as a medium, makes it difficult to rapidly skim over the content to absorb the main ideas. Having a short list of the main themes nearby significantly reduces this barrier.

Thank you for the feedback Eugene, I’m making constant small improvements to create higher value and deliver it more efficiently - most, like that one, come from feedback.

Don’t think I’ve forgot your suggestion to add a Suggest A Book button - it’s coming.

    Appreciated!
